Don't Shoot the Cricket!

So this is probably going to be one of those super rant-y liberal blogs, so if you don't like those, click the little red button.

Alright now that we're alone, would you like some wine? Perhaps a little mood music?

I just want to preface this by saying, I'm not taking the Democratic view because it's labeled as Democratic. All you people who say kids are just being brainwashed by their parents' political beliefs, PIPE THE FUCK DOWN.

So there's this company called "Crickett" that manufactures and sells guns designed for young children--starting as young as age five.

Do you know what I was doing at age five? Trying not to stab myself with a colored pencil.

It's sickening when adults start going so far to make money, they put young children's lives at stake. But what really gets me is how news sources have been covering the recent shooting--when a five year old boy shot his two-year old sister with a Crickett rifle.

Journalists certainly don't hesitate to blame the company--and for good reason. It's despicable behavior to appeal to young kids by creating flashy advertising with fun colors and to say "here kids, try it. It's only a deadly weapon." But nothing but condolences have been directed towards the family who bought the gun and let a five year old walk around the house with the loaded weapon.

I understand this family is going through a tragic loss. They obviously didn't buy the gun with the malicious intent to kill their daughter. But if a five year old gets a cool new toy that makes loud noises, he's not going to step back, say "hmmm Mom and Dad, I don't think this is a responsible choice," and refuse to play with the "toy."

Yes, the manufacturers and advertisers for Crickett should take some level of blame. But it is also the parents' jobs to ensure the safety of their young children. Advertisers aren't looking for the well being of your child.

But, but, but...whataboutfamilyvaluesandlearninggunsafetyblahblahblah?

Family values are great. Teaching responsibility is awesome. Even some recreational hunting is reasonable.

...When you lock your guns up and start teaching a ten year old. You wouldn't give a five year old a beer to teach responsible drinking. What makes gun shooting any safer?

It's actually sickening to read about a family who hands a gun to someone who hasn't even learned about the concept of death.

Don't shoot the Crickett.

Namaste.

  1. Found you through the linkup and hadn't even heard about this. It's absolutely disgusting. Good points on giving a kid a beer, because it's so true!!! I can't believe the crazy things people do without thinking about it. That poor, poor baby. :(
